Company Summary
BT Group plc provides communications solutions and services to business, consumer, wholesale, and corporate customers in Europe, the Americas, and the Asia Pacific. It operates in four segments: BT Global Services, BT Retail, BT Wholesale, and Openreach. The BT Global Services segment provides communications services, and broadband and Internet products and services, as well as networked information technology services focusing on messaging and conferencing, customer relationship management, convergence, outsourcing, and security services. This segment also offers consultancy services to help organizations understand network performance, and operate their networks and applications. The BT Retail segment supplies exchange lines, leases private circuits, and other private services, as well as offers broadband, mobility, data, Internet, and multimedia services; and managed and packaged communications solutions to consumers and small and medium sized business customers. The BT Wholesale segment provides network services and solutions to communication companies, including fixed and mobile network operators, and other service providers; and carries transit traffic between telecommunications operators. The Openreach segment provides access to the local access network. This segment's products include local loop unbundling, wholesale line rental, wholesale extension services, and backhaul extension services. As of March 31, 2007, it had approximately 1.5 million business customers with approximately 8 million exchange lines, as well as approximately 16.2 million consumer customers with approximately 19.3 million residential customer lines in the United Kingdom. The company was incorporated in 1984 and is based in London, the United Kingdom.
