Dr Pepper/Seven Up (DPSU) continued to outperform the US soft drink market in the third quarter of 1999 recording an increase of over 1% against a market which grew less than 1%.
Dr Pepper had another excellent quarter with volume growing at three times the market rate.
All Other growth was driven by significant increases in most brands including Canada Dry (+4%), A&W (+6%), Sunkist (+12%), Welch's (+16%), Country Time (+17%) and IBC (+20%).
7 UP had a difficult quarter reflecting short-term disruption caused by restructuring at The American Bottling Company and a weaker performance in the Pepsi system.
Total DPSU share in the combined Food/Drug/Mass channels, as measured by AC Nielsen, was 15.7, up 0.6 of a point from a year ago.
John Brock, Managing Director of Cadbury Schweppes Beverages Stream, said, "DPSU has outperformed the market for three consecutive quarters and gained total market share on the back of its outstanding non-cola brand portfolio, a more secure route-to-market and a dedicated team of employees. We recognise the challenge of 7 UP and remain committed to improving its performance".
