Marketplaces segment provides the infrastructure to enable online commerce in various platforms, including the traditional eBay.com platform, as well as other online platforms, such as Shopping.com, Kijiji, Gumtree.com, LoQUo.com, Intoko, Marktplaats.nl, mobile.de., and Rent.com. This segment's eBay.com platform includes traditional auction format; fixed price format; and eBay Stores that provide various tools for sellers to build, manage, promote, and track their business. Its services comprise trust and safety programs; feedback forum; safeHarbor program; verified rights owner program; PowerSeller program; customer support; and tools and services. Payments segment offers PayPal, a payments platform that enables individuals or businesses with an email address to send and receive payments online. Its services include joining the network, verification of its PayPal's account holders, withdrawing money, and trust and safety programs. Communications segment consists of Skype, an Internet communication product that enables voice over Internet protocol calls between Skype users, as well as provides Skype users connectivity to traditional fixed-line and mobile telephones. This segment offers its software in 28 languages. The company was founded in 1995 and is headquartered in San Jose, California. |
