IBM Expands Web Services Leadership with First Integration and Database Software that is J2EE 1.3-Compliant

IBM Expands Web Services Leadership with First Integration and Database Software that is J2EE 1.3-Compliant

SOMERS, NY - 28 Dec 2001: Advancing its leadership in open standards, IBM* today announced that WebSphere* and DB2* have become the first major application server and database software to be certified as Java(TM) Enterprise Edition (J2EE) 1.3-compliant.

J2EE 1.3 is the de facto industry standard for building Java applications and includes new technologies for deploying Web services, which allow applications to work together better over the Internet.

This furthers IBM's ability to help customers integrate applications and business processes and take advantage of Web services for dynamic e-business. J2EE 1.3 simplifies integration with new technologies for Web services, such as Java Messaging Service (which improves how applications create, send, receive and read messages); increased integration with XML, an essential ingredient of Web services; and standardized integration of CORBA and Java applications, which increases developer productivity and the reuse of computing assets.

"J2EE 1.3 offers new integration technologies that are fundamental to the adoption of Web services," said Scott Hebner, Director of Marketing, IBM WebSphere. "IBM is proud to deliver the first J2EE 1.3-compliant application server and database technology because it will allow customers to even better exploit the powerful capabilities of our products."

WebSphere's J2EE 1.3 technology is available as a free download to developers at www7b.boulder.ibm.com/wsdd/downloads/wstechnology_tech_preview.html and will be included in future releases of WebSphere e-business infrastructure software.

WebSphere Technology for Developers is available through WebSphere Developer Domain, a comprehensive online resource including code downloads, a product feature request database, developer forums and technical information.
