France Telecom, a winner of the Clean and Economic Technologies Trophies 2007
France Telecom won the “Large Companies” category in the 2007 Clean and Economic
Technologies Trophies(*) with an "optimised ventilation” system developed and
deployed in-house. The Trophy was presented on 27 November at the Pollutec-ADEME
Energies show.
"Optimised ventilation" exploits natural variations in temperature - particularly
nighttime coolness and the thermal inertia of buildings - to avoid using classic
air conditioning systems.
This innovation was developed and patented by the France Telecom Orange Labs
network, which invented this "clean" temperature regulation and hygrometry process
to ensure an optimised environment suitable for the proper operation of its telecoms
equipment.
Thanks to this system, France Telecom has reduced its energy consumption by a
factor of 6-7 (compared to a classic air conditioning system) across close on
400 technical sites throughout France whilst eliminating the use of refrigerants
that are harmful to the environment.
(*): The "Clean and Economic Technologies" Trophies were organised for the 15th
consecutive year by the French Environment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME)
and the magazine "Industries et Technologies" ...
