New Executive Appointments for Sony in Europe


Tokyo, Japan - Sony Corporation today announced that Michiaki (Mike) Tsurumi will retire from the position of President of Sony Europe, effective April 1, 2004. This is in accordance with Sony Corporation's internal policy on the retirement of Group Executive Officers. As of the same date, he will be succeeded by Chris Deering, currently President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Ltd. (SCEE).

Nobuyuki Idei, Chairman and Group CEO of Sony Corporation, commented: "Since becoming President of Sony Europe on April 1, 2002 Mike Tsurumi has created a management structure which has greatly enhanced the efficiency of Sony's European electronics business. He has also made a valuable contribution in developing the great potential of new markets in Russia and Eastern Europe. Sony Corporation thanks Mike Tsurumi for his fine job and has high expectations for continued success in Europe under Chris Deering's management."

Mr. Deering became President of SCEE in 1995, and managed the introduction of PlayStation into Europe and its subsequent sales growth to reach the number one market position. He is expected to apply his skills and experience to Sony's entire European electronics business.

Until the effective date, Mr. Deering and Mr. Tsurumi will work closely together and in coordination with Göran Lindahl, Chairman of the Sony Group in Europe, to ensure an orderly and smooth handover.

David Reeves, Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing of SCEE will become President and COO of that organization, effective January 1, 2004 . On the same date, Mr Deering will assume the position of Chairman in addition to his current role of CEO of SCEE. He will continue in this role after becoming President of Sony Europe from April 1, 2004.Mr. Deering's offices will be located in London and Berlin.
