North America's premier off-road race,
the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, is the final challenge for the 16 drivers who have
finished the season's first five races and remain eligible for the Toyota Milestone
Award and the seven drivers who are still eligible for the Toyota True Grit
Award. This final race of the 2003 SCORE International Off-Road Racing series
will take place Nov. 20-23 over the rugged terrain of Baja California. As it
has for the last 17 years, Toyota will present the prestigious awards to the
off-road racers who finish every mile of every race in the desert series.
Toyota Milestone Awards are presented to all SCORE off-road competitors in
the professional four-wheel classes who complete every required mile in the
six-race desert series. The previous race in Primm, Nev., only eliminated four
contenders, which leaves 16 of the 133 competitors who started the season's
first race in January with a chance to take home the coveted award by successfully
completing the celebrated Baja 1000.
Non-factory-backed competitors in classes 1/2-1600, 5, 10 and SCORE Lites who
finish every required mile in the six-race series - and have the largest cumulative
point total in each class - split the $12,000 Toyota True Grit Award prize fund.
Seven Toyota True Grit competitors remain eligible for the award.
The Toyota True Grit and Toyota Milestone Awards will be presented at the year-end
SCORE Awards Night, to be held at the Gold Coast Hotel and Casino in December.
The evening will be especially memorable, as SCORE will also be celebrating
30 years of off-road desert racing.
