Toyota Sponsors Gibson County Teachers in Defensive Driving Course

December 11, 2007 - Princeton, IN - Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Indiana (TMMI) plans to promote driver safety among young teens in Gibson County by facilitating a National Safety Council program, Alive at 25. Alive at 25 targets teens between the ages of 16 and 18 and encourages young drivers to take responsibility for their behaviors and to adopt safer driving habits.

The program is being offered to sophomores at Gibson Southern, Princeton Community and Wood Memorial high schools. Six Gibson County teachers will become certified course instructors Dec. 12 and 13 at TMMI.

The program is a four-hour defensive driving course built on interactive learning activities designed to involve young drivers in each session. Reducing the number of violations, injuries and fatalities incurred by young drivers is a main goal of the program.

TMMI began production in Princeton, in 1998. Today, TMMI employs about 4,700 team members from the Tri-State. Within the 4-million-square-foot automotive facility, team members produce the Tundra pickup truck, Sequoia sport utility vehicle and the Sienna minivan.

TMMI has donated more than $10 million since 1996 to the local community in areas of youth and education, health and human services, diversity, environment, civic and community and arts and culture.
