Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America, Inc. (TMMNA)
announced today plans to open a satellite office in San Antonio to support Toyota
Motor Manufacturing, Texas, Inc. (TMMTX) and suppliers in the region.
Beginning in March 2005, the South Central Office will employ up to 50 Toyota
team members at peak times. This workforce will be made up of both local hires
and transfers from within the company. Details about local hiring are not yet
finalized.
"Having a team on the ground in San Antonio will allow for even more efficient
coordination and communication," said Atsushi Niimi, TMMNA president and
CEO.
Located at One Countryside Place, the teams activities will initially
include production engineering and information systems.
In February 2003, Toyota announced that it had chosen a 2000-acre site in San
Antonio to build approximately 150,000 Tundra full size trucks annually, beginning
in late 2006. TMMTX will represent an $800 million investment by Toyota and
is expected to bring approximately 2,000 new jobs to Texas. Additionally, 18
automotive suppliers will set up operations on the site of the new plant. Those
suppliers are expected to have an investment of over $150 million and employ
about 1,500 people. During peak construction periods, about 2,000 people will
be working on the site.
