Internship Program Receives $10,000 From Toyota
November 15, 2000 - Cincinnati - Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America, Inc. donated $10,000 to the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) Internship Program today. The gift was presented at the automaker's 11th annual Opportunity Exchange, a conference and trade fair to provide minority business enterprises with the chance to network and develop relationships with some of Toyota's largest suppliers.
The USHCC Internship Program, established in 1995, provides unique opportunities and professional experiences for Hispanic college students pursuing a career in business. Interested students explore various disciplines within the USHCC, including government relations, communications, marketing, and accounting.
"The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce strives to promote the continued growth and development of the Hispanic business community. This Internship Program enhances the education of Hispanic college students by providing networking and practical learning opportunities," said George Herrera, President and CEO of the USHCC. "Toyota's generous donation allows us to improve the program and extend this opportunity to more students."
The $10,000 gift was presented on behalf of Opportunity Exchange keynote speaker, Linda Alvarado, president and chief operating officer of Denver-based Alvarado Construction, Inc. and the nation's first Hispanic owner of a major league baseball franchise, the Colorado Rockies. Alvarado is very active in business, civic and charitable organizations. She was previously named Business Woman of the Year by the USHCC.

Camry, Corolla, Sequoia, Sienna, Solara, Tacoma and Tundra.
The USHCC represents the interests of more than 1.4 million Hispanic-owned businesses in the United States and Puerto Rico, which earn more than $200 billion annually. The USHCC has 250 local Hispanic Chambers nationwide.
