NASDAQ And Sega Of America Join The Yahoo! Fantasy Careers' Cast Of Employers To Ring In The New Year With Dream Jobs
Yahoo! Careers Makes Fantasies a Reality for First Series Winners
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Dec. 21, 1999 --
If pursuing a
chance to be in the heart of Nasdaq to help launch an IPO or
testing the next Sega Dreamcast™ game whets your appetite,
then visit Yahoo! Careers (http://careers.yahoo.com).
Starting today and running through Feb. 6, 2000, Yahoo! users
have the opportunity to try on these dream jobs for size and
make their mark in the new millenium as they spend a "day
in the life" with these two top employers.
Job seekers 18 and over who want to participate in the Fantasy
Careers promotion simply need to set up a Yahoo! profile and
build a resume at Yahoo! Careers. Registered Yahoo! users can
build public or private resumes (up to three versions). Applicants
will be asked to submit a resume and official entry, consisting
of an essay response to the sponsor questions. Candidates may
apply for one or all of the fantasy jobs. Non-transferable prizes
include: roundtrip airfare, one night's accommodations, ground
transportation to and from work, and a one-day experience. Entries
will be judged by participating sponsors and one winner will
be selected per sponsor.
"The Yahoo! Fantasy Careers' series is consistent with
the spirit of Yahoo! and is designed to help job seekers uncover
their dream job, explore career opportunities with some of today's
hottest employers, and positively impact their lives," said
Tanya Singer, producer, Yahoo! Careers. "In the next century,
it is estimated that people will change jobs every 4.5 years
and have as many as 11 careers. The fantasy careers contest
represents another way that Yahoo! Careers brings together the
tools, resources and employers to meet the needs of job seekers
in the new millenium."
21st Century Dream Jobs
Through the Yahoo! Fantasy Careers program, Nasdaq is asking
candidates to tell them "Why Nasdaq is the stock market
of the future?" One winner will have the chance to help
take a company public from the Nasdaq MarketSite, a broadcast
media center located in Times Square in New York and opening
in January 2000. Since its inception in 1971, the Nasdaq Stock
Market has been an industry innovator. Introduced as the world's
first electronic stock market, Nasdaq set a precedent for technological
trading innovation. Helping thousands of companies achieve growth
and move into public ownership, Nasdaq helped launch approximately
500 IPOs in 1999 alone.
Sega® of America, Inc. is looking for someone to experience
the job that others only dream of and put their skills to the
ultimate test as the next Sega Dreamcast game tester. Named
one of the "Best Products of 1999" by Business Week
Magazine and hailed by TIME Digital as the "Machine of the
Year," Sega Dreamcast is Sega's million-selling, 128-bit,
Internet-ready videogame console. To spend time in the epicenter
of gaming in San Francisco, Sega wants to know "What is
required to make the perfect video game?" One winner will
be selected to help review the software and play the latest Sega
Dreamcast game.
What A Day for a Dream Job
Nasdaq and Sega are the most recent employers to join Yahoo!
Fantasy Careers, which launched on Sept. 30, 1999. And, this
year, Santa came early for the three Yahoo! Careers' users chosen
by Ben & Jerry's, Hummer Winblad Venture Partners, and International
Management Group (IMG) in the inaugural Yahoo! Fantasy Careers'
program.
Get The Scoop on Ben & Jerry's Winner - Combining wit,
marketing know-how and a sweet tooth, Mark De Angelis had the
right ingredients to be selected as Ben & Jerry's flavor
tester. A recent graduate of the University of Southern California,
Mark holds an MBA in marketing and will be starting with Johnson
& Johnson in the new year.
"I have been a big fan of Ben & Jerry's for almost
20 years; in fact, I visited the factory back in 1988. I have
been very loyal to Ben & Jerry's because of their superior
product quality, sense of playfulness in their marketing approach,
and their true commitment to activism and the community. These
are ideals I try to live by. I feel much the same about Yahoo!
and am thankful that they have provided such a unique program
to enable people to experience their dreams."
Ad-Venture Capitalist - As the managing partner in a branded
cosmetics start up, Riccardo Cannaviello knows that building
a successful company takes more than just a good idea. In addition
to hard work, passion, and intuition, it takes a strong feel
for strategy, a commitment to building companies, capital experience,
vision and determination - vision in identifying unmet market
opportunities and determination to transform them into successful
businesses. Riccardo will join Ann Winblad for a day as Hummer
Winblad's winner.
"When I found out that I won, I could not sleep the entire
night. Since then, I have been inhaling information on venture
capital, so that my experience at Hummer Winblad can be meaningful
and mutually beneficial. The Yahoo! Fantasy Careers program has
given me a unique opportunity to get exposure to the hottest
career path of our times - venture capital - with one of the
most prestigious firms in the VC community: Hummer Winblad. I
feel reassured that the 'day in the life' will be a fulfilling
adventure."
College Senior Hits Career Home Run - A senior at the University
of Pennsylvania, Matt Wurst lives and breaths sports on a daily
basis. From interning with the New York Mets and "FOX on
Sports" to working as a sports writer at the Daily Pennsylvanian,
Matt has always dreamed of being a sports agent. Matt will go
behind the scenes with IMG, recognized as the world's leading
sports marketing company, to gain a glimpse of life as a sports
agent.
"As I prepare to move into the 'real world' and take
aim at the goals that I have set for myself, I am truly grateful
for the unique opportunity that the Yahoo! Fantasy Program has
provided me. I look forward to spending a day at IMG and learning
all about what it takes to be a successful sports agent. Perhaps
my experiences with Yahoo! and IMG will serve as a springboard
for my own career in the industry."
